How are Shiite Muslims different from Sunnis in their belief?

I learnt Shiite muslims are the followers of Ali.
What make Shiites believe in Ali?
Some Sunnis say that Shiites are not really Muslims. Why is that?
Could you please explain with some exmaples.

The disputations between Sunni and Shiite are over the succession of the califate. The Shiites believe that a descendent of the prophet (Ali was the nearest descendent) and according to the Shiites the rightful calif which they call an Imam. The closest companions of Mohammed took a vote and elected Malik (I think his name was but my Islamic history is very rusty). Sunnis believe the succession of the califate is an electoral issue not a hereditery inheritance.

Is Islam the only religion that offers women the truest human rights and dignity?

I got a pamphlet saying only Islam can truly liberate a woman. Is it true?

think about it. rights? they must cover them selfs. wear black in the heat. not vote. not drive, not speak to other men.
the whole religon is based on fear, control and guilt.
they say they love? but hate all who r not with them. and many women from the west have maried and got to live in there country. only to loss there childern, rights, or there lives.

How do you feel about the Muslim support for the rookie Senator despite his abnegation of Islam?

muslims have all the right to choose their candidate, be it Hillary, John Edwards or any other else. It would be important to note however that people who abnegate Islam religion are oftenly considered as "traitor" to Islam. In extreme cases, renouncing of Islam could make one a target for fatal retribution.
Fadi, he said he was once a Muslim.

He says what people want to hear so he can win their votes. Nothing is black or white. Those who have a low IQ or a brainwashed head can think of him as traitor, and those who like voting for someone who is half their race will vote for him. People in general like those who have some common qualities. So, if the religion makes them feel more comfortable, so be it. Don't think that people really analyze things as you battmann. Many times people vote for someone just because they don't like anybody else.
