With Catholicism It is just not fulfilling for me and I am looking for something more. The media here just makes Islam seem to be about violence but after looking into it further I don't see any of that at all.
The following is a summary of my life long study of Islam and the important don'ts. Keep it as a welcome note and I hope you find what you are looking for
The important thing to remember is to approach the subject with the knowledge that God confirmed the perfection of the religion of Islam and guaranteed the authenticity of the entire Quran, declared repeatedly the simplicity of the message, warned against the twisters of words and encouraged us to meditate on the message of the Quran over and over again.
Furthermore, Quran confirmed the same message has been given to all previous messengers, who were all equal in status as messengers of God, drew our attention towards a very simple test of non-contradiction of any Divine revelations and finally declared the completeness of the message for the whole of mankind and for all times to come.
Stay clear of concepts alien to the true teachings of Islam, like abrogation and Shaan-e-Nuzool (Circumstances of a Revelation.) and keep clear of some translations if you don't understand Arabic, like the following
Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali, Muhammad Muhsin Khan, Ibn Kathir, Dawood, George Sale and JM Rodwell.
The other body of Islamic literature is the Ahadith, extreme caution is needed since a large number of fake Ahadith can be found in the popular compilations like Bukhari, Muslim etc
Once again keep clear of different "Madhabs", Islam has no provision for them
Other than that you will be fine
